Introduction:
The Sharingan is one of the three legendary dojutsu. That can only possess by uchiha clan Until someone steals it. Not every Uchiha can possess the Sharingan; only a few chosen ones can activate it. Because it is hard to activate and upgrade it.
Activation of the Sharingan
The Sharingan only activates when an Uchiha experiences intense emotional disturbance or negative feelings. During such times, their brain release a unique form of chakra that affects their optical nerve system, transforming their eyes into the Sharingan.
In the Naruto world, it is said that negative emotions like anger, hatred, sorrow are necessary to activate the Sharingan. That’s why the Uchiha are referred to as the cursed of hatred. But many people believe that the Sharingan could be activated through positive feelings too.But in the series we haven’t watched it happen. And after the war, a few Uchiha activated their Sharingan.
Stages of the Sharingan
Sharingan has 4 stages such as Sharingan, Mangekyo Sharingan, Eternal Mangekyo Sharingabn, Rinnegan.
First, we need to understand the normal Sharingan. When the Sharingan manifests, it typically appears with one tomoe in the user’s eye. In some cases, it appears with two tomoe or even three tomoe. It all depends on the individual’s negative feelings and desires.
A normal Sharingan has two basic powers: 1. Deep insight and 2. Genjutsu. . In the anime, some people refer to these abilities as the “Eyes of Insight” and “Eyes of Hypnosis.” many of you may already have deep knowledge about the Sharingan but I will summarize it for clarity.

Deep Insight of the Sharingan
In deep insight, the user can see the flow of chakra around them and also read it. However, this is not like the Byakugan, which can see through objects and locate specific chakra points. With the insight provided by these eyes, the user can track and copy anyone’s movements and use them for themselves, just as Kakashi copied over a thousand jutsu. After copying the move, they can modify it in their own way.
As the number of tomoe increases from one to three, their speed of reaction and insight power also increase.
However, to match these initial powers, the user must have high chakra reserves, which places a significant amount of stress and pain on the user’s body. This is because activating and maintaining the Sharingan requires a high reserve of chakra. Only then can the user use it for extended periods; otherwise, the strain on the body will be so great that they could faint immediately due to chakra run out.
Now, as it is a dojutsu or a physical jutsu, anyone can implant it in their eyes. And we have seen this throughout the series. But if a non-Uchiha uses it, there are some drawbacks. For example, they cannot turn it on and off; it will always remain on. That’s why, they need double the amount of chakra to use it. That’s why we have seen throughout the series that Kakashi always keeps his Sharingan covered to prevent his chakra from running out. Also, a non-Uchiha cannot use the full potential of the Sharingan, and even Madara Uchiha have said that its full powers can only be used with both eyes.
The Sharingan helps a lot in a fight as it can detect the smallest movements, even predict the opponent’s next movements by detecting their little muscle tensions.
Genjutsu of the Sharingan
Now, I am going to talk about the second basic power of the Sharingan, which is genjutsu, the user can hypnotise anyone with eye contact and manipulate their memories and time-space. Some genjutsu are so powerful that they can destroy the opponent’s mental health, erasing and rewriting their memories.
Anyway, there are many ways to use it. But it is mostly used with eye contact and is so powerful that it can even hypnotise tail beasts. However, for this, the user must be powerful themselves. For example, Madara and Obito controlled the Nine-Tails because they were already very powerful.
Special Powers of the Sharingan
Besides these two powers, the Sharingan has two more abilities: Izanagi and Izanami. which are forbidden jutsu, but it is still unclear if it can be used with a normal Sharingan or if a Mangekyo Sharingan is required. If you know, please let me know in the comment section.
Izanagi allows the user to alter the concepts of time and space temporarily, turning reality into illusion and illusion into reality. Madara used it to reverse his own death.
Izanami traps the opponent in an infinite loop that never ends. it specifically created for those who misuse their aIzanagi. Both of these jutsus are very powerful and forbidden, and using them blinds one eye of the user. Using them twice makes the user completely blind. However, there is a cure for this blindness: if the user has Hashirama’s cells, their eyes can recover, just like Madara Uchiha’s eyes recovered after he implanted Hashirama’s cells in himself. So when you kill your loved one yourself or experience their death in front of your eyes or go through some great trauma, your immature Sharingan, which may be in the process, also converts into the Mangekyo Sharingan. The Mangekyo Sharingan has all the powers of the original Sharingan. When your Mangekyo Sharingan activates, the tomoe in your Sharingan merge to form a unique pattern in your eyes, and its design is different for each user.
Activation of the Mangekyo Sharingan
Activating the Mangekyo Sharingan is so difficult that only a few Uchiha have managed to do it. During the Edo (Tokugawa) period, it was believed that you could only activate your Mangekyo Sharingan after killing a close relative or sibling. This influence people to start killing their own relatives and siblings to activate their Mangekyo Sharingan. However, this is not entirely true because some Mangekyo Sharingans were activated through trauma without killing anyone but just by witnessing the death of someone special. For example, Obito activated his Mangekyo Sharingan not by killing anyone but by witnessing his loved one get killed.
Let me clarify that no matter how much trauma a non-Uchiha go through. They cannot develop the Sharingan. Kakashi’s Sharingan developed because he had Obito’s eye, which was connected to him. Each eye of the Mangekyo Sharingan has unique powers that are different for each Uchiha and are not available to others unless they take the eye of the user. For example,Itachi’s one eye has Amaterasu, and the other has Infinite Tsukuyomi. Sasuke could later use Amaterasu because he implanted one eye. Once the Mangekyo Sharingan is activated, the user can also activate Susanoo, a gigantic chakra entity. Only an Uchiha can activate Susanoo, and once activated, even if the user loses their eyes, they can still use Susanoo. However, a non-Uchiha cannot do this.
To summarize, the Mangekyo Sharingan is an upgraded version of the Sharingan with many errors. Using it puts a lot of strain on the body, requiring a lot of chakra to activate and even more to maintain. Using its techniques requires even more chakra. Thats why when Itachi used it three times in a day, he didn’t have enough chakra to activate it again.
Activation of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
Using the Mangekyo Sharingan too much causes blood to come out of the eyes, and eventually, the user can go blind. However, the user can regain their eyesight by activating the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which requires implanting the Mangekyo Sharingan of a relative. Once this is done, the two Mangekyo Sharingans merge into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, allowing the user to use its powers without the risk of blindness, with less chakra consumption, and can also use the previous user’s powers.. For example, Sasuke used Amaterasu without any side effects after getting Itachi’s eyes. But sometimes, even with the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, blood can come out of the eyes if used too much.
With the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, the user can manifest True Susanoo, which gives them a significant advantage in fights. Using Susanoo, you can dominate Tailed Beasts. For example, Madara Uchiha used Susanoo during the Fourth Great Ninja War to defeat the Five Kage, using only 30-40% of Susanoo’s power.this gives an idea of how formidable it is.
Activation of the Rinnegan
The Mangekyo Sharingan can also manifest the Rinnegan if the user has Hashirama’s cells because implanting Hashirama’s cells gives the user Hagoromo’s chakra. When Madara had Hashirama’s cells, his Rinnegan manifested in his final moments, and later, he implanted it in Nagato. Similarly, when Sasuke received half of Hagoromo’s chakra, his Rinnegan with six tomoe activated.. Anyway, Hagoromo was the first person/alien to manifest both the Sharingan and Rinnegan.
Back to the main point, Hagoromo’s son Indra manifested the Sharingan, while his other son Asura didn’t have any dojutsu. Later, both formed their own clans. Indra’s descendants were the Uchiha, and Asura’s descendants were the Senju. When Madara implanted Hashirama’s cells in himself, he gained Hagoromo’s chakra.
