Introduction
If you read my blogs, you must have come across the concepts of Rulers and Monarchs. But do you personally know these eight Monarchs? do you know their names and powers? In today’s blog, we will discuss the Monarchs in detail. But keep in mind that this blog is filled with spoilers, so if you don’t want spoilers, you should stop reading now.
Yogumunt: The Monarch of Transfiguration
We are going to talk about the first Monarch named Yogumunt, also known as the Monarch of Transfiguration or the King of Demonic Spectres. Not much is revealed about Yogumunt in the manhwa. However, it is known that Yogumunt looks down on humans. In fact, Yogumunt was very arrogant, but he was also cunning because he knew he wasn’t as powerful as the Shadow Monarch. You can guess his cunningness from the fact that during the Monarch War arc, the Frost Monarch told all the Monarchs to fight Jinwoo together, but Yogumunt outright refused to fight him. He knew that defeating Jinwoo without the help of Antares was almost impossible. Now, you might ask, who is Antares? Well, I will tell you in this blog, so stay tuned.
Querehsha: The Monarch of Plagues
The one we are talking about is named Querehsha, also known as the Monarch of Plagues and the Queen of Insects. Don’t be fooled by her innocent face; she is a very bloodthirsty Monarch who always wants to kill her opponents. She considers the minions in her army as her children. As the Queen of Insects, her army consists of big, powerful insects. During the Monarchs War arc, she attacked Jinwoo with the Frost Giant and Rakan, but she got distracted because of Beru, who used to be an insect and whom she tried to control according to her will. Jinwoo took advantage of this distraction and defeated her. A lot happened during this long fight, which we will discuss some other time. For now, just know that she died in the final fight. Regarding her powers, the Queen of Insects can regenerate. She can also use necromancy, meaning she can reanimate her dead minions with the help of parasites. Additionally, she uses venom. She also has mana construct powers, which means she can create a giant glowing green hand with mana.
Besides these, all Monarchs have some common powers like strength, speed, durability, and strength. You can guess the power from the fact that it can hold Beru with her bare hand and make Jinwoo bleed with a single punch.
“Facing a Monarch is like standing against the fury of nature itself. But even they can be brought down.”
– Thomas Andre
Legia: The Monarch of the Beginning
The next one is named Legia, also known as the Monarch of The Beginning or the King of Giants. If you remember, I told you that after the death of the Absolute Being, the Rulers captured Legia. They kept him chained with Mana Absorbing Chains. Later, the Rulers planted an Essence Stone in him to send him to Earth so that he could fuse Mana with Earth’s environment. It’s a big plot point that is not necessary to know much about now. We will discuss it in detail in future blogs. Just know that the Essence Stone causes monsters to always have the feeling of wanting to kill humans. That’s why they are released through gates. By the way, Legia was killed by Jinwoo. Legia had a lot of powers, including strength, durability, and all that. Now you might ask why Jinwoo doesn’t resurrect the dead Monarchs and include them in his army. It’s a burning question, but the answer is simple. These higher beings are not in organic form. They are high spiritual beings, so their shadows cannot be extracted. That’s why Legia and other higher beings cannot be resurrected as shadows; they are higher beings, not organic beings. So don’t ask this question repeatedly. I have answered it.
Tarnak: The Monarch of Iron Body
Moving on, the next Monarch is Tarnak, also known as the King of Monstrous Humanoids or Monarch of Iron Body. Tarnak also looks down on humans. In fact, he says Jinwoo doesn’t deserve to inherit Shadow Monarch’s power. Although he knew that he couldn’t fight Jinwoo alone. So he also did not join the Frost Monarch to battle against Jinwoo.
In final battle Tarnak fought Thomas Andre. But here, Thomas Andre and Jinwoo made a master plan. Basically Thomas had Beru and Bellion in his shadow, and they defeated Tarnak together. Now you might ask who Thomas is. Well, he is an American national-level hunter, even above the S rank. There is a whole theory and story behind how he became a national level. I will explain this in another blog. There will also be a blog on top hunters, so if you don’t want to miss that, follow our website.
Frost Monarch: The King of Snow Folk
The next Monarch is Frost Monarch known as the King of Snow Folk,. He is a bit reckless that’s why he had the biggest urge to kill Jinwoo.
He, along with Rakan and Querehsha, attacked Jinwoo. During this battle, a lot happened, but briefly, Jinwoo’s father helped him, and, as expected, the Frost Monarch was killed. His powers include normal Monarch speed, strength and durability along with ice magic, which means he can freeze things, create weapons from ice, create monsters from ice, and do anything with ice. He can regenerate, which means he can heal himself using ice magic. And he can teleport using ice portals. So, he is quite powerful. Just know that he had a big fight with Jinwoo, but he was ultimately killed by Jinwoo’s father.
Rakan: The Monarch of Fangs
Moving on, the next one is named Rakan, also known as the King of the Beasts or Monarch of Fangs. He is a very tricky and cunning Monarch who respects only the powerful. If someone is weaker than him, he kills them. If someone is stronger, he accepts them. Rakan’s trickiness is evident from the fact that during the Monarch War, when the Frost Monarch was about to lose, Rakan created a portal and escaped. Jinwoo followed him, though Rakan bowed down to Jinwoo and said he couldn’t fight him. However, Jinwoo did not forgive him and eventually killed him with only four hits. Rakan’s powers include speed, strength, and durability. He also possesses the power of telekinesis, allowing him to move objects without touching them. Additionally, like every Monarch, he has spiritual body manifestation and the power of regeneration.
Baran: The Monarch of White Flames
The next Monarch is Baran, known as the Monarch of White Flames or the “King of Demons.” He is a Monarch who does not fear fighting. In the past, he joined forces with Rakan and launched an attack on Ashborn, fully aware that he couldn’t defeat Ashborn. Despite being on the same side, Rakan ran away. However, Baran showed remarkable coordination and fought Ashborn with all his strength, although he ultimately died.
Talking about his powers, he possesses the same strength, speed, and durability as other Monarchs. Additionally, Baran has his own Hell’s Army, who can travel anywhere through portals. Moreover, he possesses Lightning Breath, meaning he can emit electricity from his mouth to defeat or debuff his opponents.
Those who have followed the incomplete Solo Leveling might wonder about Baran during the Demon Castle arc, where we have seen Baran. Actually The Baran seen there was not the original Baran but a magical copy created by the Architect for testing Jin-woo.
“We Monarchs are the embodiment of destruction. To challenge us is to challenge the natural order of the universe.”
– Antares
Antares: The Monarch of Destruction
Finally, we arrive at the last Monarch, Antares, also known as the Monarch of Destruction or the King of Dragons. Antares is the strongest Monarch, and Apart from him no one is capable of defeating Shadow Monarch alone. Just as Shadow Monarch struggles to find a perfect human vessel, Antares also finds it challenging due to his immense power. Accommodating such power in a vessel is nearly impossible. In fact, defeating Antares was almost impossible for Jin-woo. Even during the final fight, the rulers had to help him defeat Antares.
Although using Chalice Of Rebirth also known as Cup of Reincarnation, time was reversed, allowing Jinwoo to fight and train for 27 years. After this period, he became powerful enough to finally defeat Antares on his own.
Antares possesses speed, strength, durability, and the ability to manifest a spiritual body. Additionally, he has telepathy, which allows him to instantly communicate with every Monarch. His durability is exceptional, enabling him to absorb all initial attacks from Jin-Woo. Moreover, Antares has the power of Dragon’s Fear; when he screams, his weaker opponents fear, tremble, and retreat, allowing him to easily defeat them.
He also uses Breath of Destruction, literally throwing fire from his mouth. This fire is so hot that it can burn any S-rank hunter into ash in seconds. Even Jinwoo’s shadow soldiers, which can regenerate no matter how many times they are killed, do not come back when they die in Antares’ fire. Overall, Antares is the most powerful Monarch.
This covers all eight Monarchs. You might wonder why I am not mentioning anything about the Shadow Monarch; he is also a Monarch, but I have already provided details about the Shadow Monarch in the gods’ blog. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. I’m not covering the Rulers here, as not much is revealed about them. Although we have decent knowledge about their vessels, the national-level hunters. If you want to know more about hunters, share it with your friends. Don’t forget to follow on Instagram and Twitter.
