Introduction
In Naruto’s world, if you think that the Uchiha’s greatest power is their Sharingan, then no well, yes, that’s true, but they also have another power that is even more superior in combat. This power is like a nightmare in fights. Some of you might have guessed it; I am talking about Susanoo.
Susanoo is a trump card for the Uchiha, but unlocking and controlling it is no child’s play; not just any Uchiha can do it. To activate Susanoo, you need the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. Now you might be wondering, Mangekyo Sharingan? Very few people can activate it, like Sasuke Uchiha and Madara Uchiha. But don’t worry, there are a few who have activated Susanoo even without the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan due to their talent. Before we move ahead in the blog, let me tell you a bit about Susanoo.
Introduction to Susanoo: The Uchiha’s Trump Card
So, what is Susanoo? It is a humanoid construct made of chakra and has three primary stages. While users can modify it according to their needs, these are the main stages. The first stage is the Skeletal Susanoo, which is primarily used for defense. The second stage is the Incomplete Susanoo, which includes an armored form.
In this stage, the user gets a half-body Susanoo construct. Despite being incomplete, it is powerful enough to wipe out entire ninja battalions. However, this stage has a weakness: you can be attacked from below, as there is no defense from the ground, similar to how Gaara attacked Madara. This same weakness applies to the Skeletal Susanoo. The solution to this comes in the third stage, which is the Complete Susanoo, a fully-formed construct that provides complete defense. This form is so powerful that the user can literally crush any enemy.
Now you must understand that Susanoo is an incredibly powerful ability. Each Susanoo has different abilities and sizes. In their true form, every Susanoo has the ability to fly. Additionally, each Susanoo represents the user’s nature through its color, which is why each Susanoo’s color is different.
Shisui Uchiha: The Green Susanoo
Let’s talk about the seventh one on the list, Shisui Uchiha. I might confuse his name with Bleach’s Shunsui sometimes, so bear with me. Shisui Uchiha is considered the best friend of Itachi. We learned about his Susanoo in his backstory. When Danzo’s subordinates were after him because Danzo wanted Shisui’s second Sharingan as well, Shisui managed to activate Susanoo with just one eye since Danzo had stolen his other eye. This incident occurred during the Third Great Ninja War.
Shisui’s Susanoo is unique compared to the others in appearance. Its color is green, representing a pure heart, and it has a drill instead of a sword in its hand, making it very distinct. Shisui could only summon his incomplete Susanoo, possibly because he had only one eye and hadn’t activated his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. But the question arises: how did he activate Susanoo with just one eye? There isn’t a concrete answer, but one theory suggests he had already activated it before Danzo stole his eye, which allowed him to use it even with one eye or blind.
Shisui’s true Susanoo was never shown in the anime, but it was depicted in the Naruto game, designed by the manga’s writer, and was supposed to be canon. However, for unknown reasons, it was not considered canon.
“My Susanoo wields the Totsuka Blade, a weapon that seals all it pierces. It is a power that transcends life and death.”
– Itachi Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha: The Red Susanoo
Now let’s move to the next Uchiha. The sixth one is Itachi Uchiha. Don’t curse yet, just read. He activated his Mangekyo Sharingan when he witnessed Shisui’s death before his eyes and couldn’t save him, living with that guilt ever since. Through this experience, he gained the power of Susanoo. He could activate only an incomplete Susanoo, which he used during his fight with Sasuke.
It is shown and stated that Itachi can’t use the true Susanoo because he doesn’t have the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. However, in the Naruto game, his true Susanoo is shown, and it looks really cool. I don’t know if they were planning to canonize it, but what conversations happened afterward to stop this from happening are unknown.
Despite being incomplete, Itachi’s Susanoo possesses abilities on a next-level scale. One of its abilities is the Yata Mirror, which allows Itachi to reflect the biggest attacks back at his opponent, regardless of the chakra nature. The second ability is the Totsuka Blade, which can seal anyone it pierces forever in a genjutsu realm, as it did with Orochimaru. Orochimaru survived because he was a fragment of the White Snake. However, this ability only works if the blade pierces through the opponent, not just touches them. Many people believe that if the enemy touches the sword, they will be sealed, but that’s not the case; it has to pierce through, as Kakashi pierced through Rin’s heart.
Undoubtedly, Itachi is one of the most genius and powerful shinobi. But since he doesn’t have the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, he can’t use the true Susanoo, which is why he ranks sixth on this list. It’s not necessary to have the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan to activate the true Susanoo; there is another way, which you will find out in the blog.

Kakashi Hatake: The Non-Uchiha Susanoo
Now, let’s move to the fifth rank, Kakashi Hatake. Despite being a non-Uchiha, Kakashi has a Sharingan that Obito gave him when he was dying. Kakashi earned the title of Copy Ninja and Master of 1000 Jutsus because of Obito’s Sharingan. It’s still unclear how Kakashi’s Sharingan activated the Mangekyou Sharingan, despite him having only one eye. It is believed that when Kakashi touched Rin’s heart (killing her), and since Obito was also present, the Mangekyou Sharingan activated due to the great sacrifice and the emotional trauma of seeing Rin die in front of them.
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, when Obito gave Kakashi his chakra, Kakashi was able to activate the perfect Susanoo. But wait, you can only activate the true Susanoo with the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, so how did Kakashi do it with only the Mangekyou Sharingan? It is believed that after Obito became the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and acquired the power of the Six Paths (Rinnegan), some of this chakra was transferred to Kakashi when Obito gave him his eye. This allowed Kakashi to summon the true Susanoo.
Now let’s talk about Kakashi’s abilities, which are next level. Kakashi’s Susanoo can use two powerful techniques: a sword and the Mangekyou Sharingan’s Kamui Shuriken. The Kamui Shuriken is particularly powerful. Kakashi can use it to send his opponents to the Kamui dimension. Once trapped in the Kamui world, escape is impossible unless the user allows it. So, even if you dodge the shuriken attack, you can’t avoid the Kamui’s range, which is extensive. Even the Ten-Tails’ hand was completely cut off by it. So, how will you try to escape unless you are Madara Uchiha?
Kakashi’s Susanoo is one of the coolest, with a headband on its forehead and a long scar over its eye, just like Kakashi. This gives it a fierce look. However, Kakashi couldn’t use this Susanoo again because he isn’t of Uchiha bloodline, and Susanoo is an Uchiha ability. If a non-Uchiha could use it, even with Sharingans, Danzo would have created an army of Susanoos.
Madara Uchiha: The Blue Susanoo
Now, let’s move on to the fourth on the list, Madara Uchiha. Known as the Ghost of the Uchiha, he was the first to activate his Mangekyou Sharingan, probably as a teenager. During Madara’s time, there were many wars, and he made a lot of sacrifices. However, the overuse of the Mangekyou Sharingan decreased his eyesight. Later, he implanted his brother’s Mangekyou Sharingan, which gave him the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
After that, he was able to use the Susanoo, which we saw during his fight with Hashirama. His Susanoo appears to be dark blue. As I mentioned, the Susanoo’s color represents the user’s nature. For example, Shisui’s Susanoo is green, representing his pure heart, Itachi’s Susanoo is red, symbolizing the heavy burden on his heart, and Kakashi’s is light blue, representing trust. Madara’s dark blue Susanoo represents his dark side.
The most unique thing about Madara’s Susanoo is that it possibly has three or four faces (I don’t remember exactly), but it also has four arms, each holding a sword. This makes Madara’s Susanoo extremely powerful, with one sword swing capable of cutting mountains in half. With his incomplete Susanoo alone, he was able to bring the five Kage to their knees, even though Madara was not that serious in the fight.
Then, the five Kage put all their efforts into destroying Madara’s incomplete Susanoo, but what does Madara say to them? “Five on one is not a fair game. If you all fight me one on five, what will happen?” After which Madara creates five clones, each of which starts fighting the Kage. But it doesn’t end there. Madara pours fuel on the fire by asking, “Do you want these clones to use Susanoo?” Hearing this, the Kage are literally scared.
The biggest flex of Madara is his chakra reserve. Summoning one complete Susanoo takes a tremendous amount of chakra. If someone uses their entire chakra reserve, they might be able to summon one true Susanoo, and if that Susanoo gets destroyed, they won’t be able to summon it again. However, Madara summoned, destroyed, dissolved, and resummoned Susanoo multiple times in one fight. Even though he was in his reanimated form at that time, Madara’s chakra reserve was still massive. During his fight with Hashirama, they both kept fighting for three days straight.
In the Fourth Great Ninja War, when Madara obtained the powers of the Six Paths, he didn’t use Susanoo anymore, so we never got to see the true power of his Susanoo in that form.
Indra Ōtsutsuki: The Purple Susanoo
Let’s move on to the third Uchiha, the father of all Uchiha, Indra Ōtsutsuki. We know as much about Indra’s Susanoo as there is money in my bank balance, meaning very little. One unique thing about Indra’s Susanoo is that he activated it without having an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, thanks to his father’s powers, who was the Sage of the Six Paths. Indra, as the progenitor of the Uchiha clan, had an extremely powerful Susanoo. It was much larger compared to the normal ones and was dark purple, representing his hatred.
For a detailed blog about Sharingan’s history and its various forms, please read my blog “Sharingan History.”
Indra’s Susanoo, although not extensively documented, stands out due to its size and the unique circumstances under which it was activated. Indra’s connection to his father, the Sage of the Six Paths, provided him with unparalleled strength and abilities, making his Susanoo exceptionally formidable.
Sasuke Uchiha: The Dark Purple Susanoo
Let’s talk about the second Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha. Sasuke activated his Mangekyō Sharingan after the death of his brother Itachi. As sacrifice is the key to gaining the Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke’s journey continued when he implanted Itachi’s eyes into himself, awakening the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and gaining the power of Susanoo. One thing I’ll say about Sasuke is that he’s probably the only Uchiha who has used the full potential of Susanoo, from its skeletal form to the humanoid form, armored Susanoo, and even the true Susanoo.
In both the anime and manga, Sasuke has demonstrated Susanoo at a very high level, absorbing the power of tailed beasts and transforming his Susanoo into Indra’s Susanoo. Sasuke is also the only Uchiha who, without being a Jinchūriki, absorbed the power of all tailed beasts and could use Susanoo like an armor around his entire body. His Susanoo is similar to Indra’s Susanoo in appearance. Sasuke’s Susanoo is dark purple, representing his inner hatred. Although Sasuke has evolved, his Susanoo remains purple.
Sasuke’s Susanoo can use techniques like Chidori, but he mostly relies on a bow and arrow, which can shoot powerful, rapid arrows and also serve as a shield. Additionally, Sasuke possesses the Rinnegan, the power of the Sage of the Six Paths, making his power unparalleled.
“Borrowed power or not, my Susanoo represents a fusion of my own skills and the gift of a friend. Together, we become invincible.”
– Kakashi Hatake
Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki: The Ultimate Susanoo
Now, let’s move on to the most badass Susanoo, in front of which even the Ten Tails is nothing: Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki’s Susanoo. Yes, Hagoromo can also use Susanoo because he is the father of the father of all Uchiha.
Hagoromo’s Susanoo is light blue, similar to Kakashi’s. However, Hagoromo’s Susanoo has a much more demonic appearance, which sets it apart on a whole different level and gives it a chilling look.
It’s so powerful that it effortlessly stopped the Ten Tails’ bomb tank with its sword, as if it was nothing. This Susanoo is much taller than all the other Susanoos we’ve seen so far, almost as tall as the Ten Tails. We don’t know much else about it, as it hasn’t been explored in detail.
