Introduction
Welcome to anibuddytalk . Today i am going to explain the jujutsu kaisen 0 movie. This blog will be made in two parts. I want to make a detailed blog to explain the movie. I want you to understand the story, feel the emotions behind it. So, it might turn out to be a longer blog, and because of that, I have to release it in two parts since I can’t upload such a long blog all at once. So, let’s start this blog.
Introduction to Yuta Okkotsu
Now, as the anime starts, we see a scene from a year before, in November 2016, at Tokyo High School. Here, there’s a 16-year-old boy named Yuta Okkotsu. And on his graduation day, four seniors are bullying him. Yuta asks them to stop, but he feels quite alone and scared. One of the seniors threatens him, saying he would kill him, and that’s when Yuta says, “RIKA!” and suddenly a cursed spirit appears. The boys who were just bullying him get completely beaten up by the cursed spirit. Yuta is safe, and it starts raining outside. He says, “I’m sorry,” and we see that all the bullies inside the closet, and blood is dripping from them.
I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore. I want to be needed by someone.
– Yuta Okkotsu
Yuta’s Admission to Jujutsu High
Next, we see Yuta being kept in a detention center, and meanwhile, Gojo is talking with the Justice Council, discussing what to do with Yuta. Gojo says they shouldn’t kill him because his power is extraordinary and could be useful. Therefore, Gojo decides to have Yuta admitted into the school. When Gojo visits Yuta, he finds a broken knife with him. Yuta explains that every time he tries to harm himself, the curse won’t let him. This is why Gojo tells Yuta that he will join their school, but Yuta refuses, saying that he can’t get along with people and doesn’t want to hurt anyone else. Gojo says, “How long will you keep living like this? You’ll end up all alone and won’t be able to make any friends. You could use your cursed energy to help people, and we’ll teach you how to control it.”
In the introduction sequence, we see Yuta wearing a uniform with a necklace that has a ring on it. He meets Gojo and first-year students Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, Tokyo, and Panda. These students are discussing the new transfer student while walking to class. They mention that the kids from before weren’t killed, just injured. Maki says they’ll straighten out Yuta, and Toge remains silent. Gojo introduces Yuta to the class, but the students don’t seem that interested. When Yuta enters the class, he doesn’t say anything and looks really nervous. At that moment, Rika appears, causing the others to prepare for an attack, and someone says, “How dare you come here as a spirit user?”
Here Gojo explains that nearly 10,000 people mysteriously die every year in Japan because of curses, which are born from negative emotions. These curses are born from the negativity that people spread. So, in this jujutsu high school, they teach us how to exorcise these curses. Gojo tells everyone to step back, explaining that Yuta’s curse is extremely powerful. Yuta’s curse, Rika, also warns them that if they mess with Yuta, she will kill them all.
Rika’s Origins: The Childhood Friend
Then, we see a flashback from when Yuta was 10 years old. His childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, was with him in Sendai city. On Yuta’s birthday, Rika gave him a ring, an engagement ring, and they promised to marry each other when they grew up. But their excitement didn’t last long, as that same day, Rika was hit by a car and died. While Yuta stood in shock, others called the police and an ambulance. Yuta then noticed Rika, now a cursed spirit, holding onto his hand, as she made him promise they would marry when he grew up.
The scene then cuts back to the present, where Gojo explains to the other students that if they bully or mess with him again, Rika will kill them. The students are shocked, and then Gojo introduces everyone to the new students:
Maki Zenin is a weapons expert and a “curse tool user”; Toge Inumaki is a “curse speech user” who only speaks in rice ball ingredients to avoid accidentally cursing others; and Panda is a “cursed corpse” with imbued cursed energy.
Yuta wonders about Gojo’s unique teaching style, and for their afternoon assignment, Yuta and Maki are paired together. Maki is not happy about this, while Yuta tries to engage in small talk, but Maki doesn’t give him much attention. She tells him that Rika has been protecting him for a long time, and yet he acts as if he’s the only victim, as if everything bad only happens to him. She warns him that in order to move forward, they need to have a goal.
Meanwhile, Panda interrupts, apologizing on Maki’s behalf for her behavior, and Toge agrees but also seems to understand Maki’s feelings.
First Mission: The Elementary School Curse
Later, Gojo takes Yuta and the others to a school where two children have gone missing, and a curse has taken hold of them. Gojo explains to Yuta that schools and hospitals are places filled with negative emotions, which is why curses often manifest there.
Their assignment is to retrieve the children, whether they are dead or alive. Gojo drops a veil to make it easier for them to locate the curse and to keep the outside world unaware of the situation. Before the veil closes, Gojo advises them not to die.
With no time to react, the veil closes. Yuta notices Maki fighting some low-grade curses and easily defeating them. She explains to Yuta that weak curses always travel in groups, much like weak humans do.
Yuta is extremely surprised and impressed by how easily Maki can exorcise all the curses. He follows her into the school, feeling nervous, and tries to talk to her, saying, “Miss Zenin.” However, Maki gets annoyed and says, “Don’t call me that, it’s my family name, and I don’t like it.” She answers his question, but the atmosphere remains tense.
Inside the school, there are several low-grade curses lurking, but they aren’t attacking; they’re just hiding. Maki wonders if this is happening because of Yuta and Rika. She asks Yuta what his rank is, on a scale of 4 to 1. Yuta responds that he doesn’t remember, so Maki tells him to show his student ID, saying, “That idiot Gojo gave you one student ID, didn’t he?” Yuta shows his ID, and Maki is shocked to see that it says “Special Grade,” a rank higher than Grade 1, which means Yuta is extremely dangerous and powerful.
Before they can react, a massive curse suddenly appears and blasts through the side of the building. Maki tries to attack it with her weapon, but the curse overpowers her and consumes both of them. The curse taunts them, saying, “That was a great meal, I enjoyed it.”
Yuta is in shock, and Maki has to remind him that the curse has swallowed them. Maki is angry that she lost her cursed tool, and Yuta mumbles that he doesn’t even know how to use Rika’s powers. Maki tells him not to worry because once the veil drops, someone will come to help them. But she remains frustrated. Just then, they hear the voices of the two missing children they were searching for. The kids have already been affected by the curse, and the younger child is unconscious.
Rika Saves Maki and Yuta During the Mission
Yuta asks, “What happened to them, and how can we help?” Maki responds, “Not everyone can handle cursed energy like you.” We see that Maki is also struggling to endure curse energy, and she starts to lose consciousness. The kids cry for help, and Yuta says, “I can’t help you.”
Maki, barely conscious, asks Yuta, “Why are you here? What do you want to achieve?” Yuta replies, “I just don’t want anyone to get hurt. I agree with Gojo—if I keep distancing myself, I’ll end up alone. I want people to need me so that I can live a better life and feel confident.” Maki tells him, “Before that, you’ll need to exorcise curses. Only then will you gain confidence and make new friends. That’s what life is like here at Jujutsu High.”
Maki then collapses, leaving Yuta standing alone. He calls out to Rika, saying, “Please help me, give me your strength.” Suddenly, Rika appears in full power and starts effortlessly destroying the curse.
Gojo, watching from outside the veil, remarks on how dangerous Rika’s manifestation is.
Yuta takes the opportunity to carry Maki and the children out of the veil. Although he stumbles, he sees a vision of Rika from their childhood, telling him, “Don’t worry, keep moving forward. You can do it.”
Yuta manages to get out of the veil just as it collapses. Gojo congratulates him for his bravery. The next scene cuts to the hospital, where Yuta is unsure if Maki and the children are okay, as it was the first time he saved someone using his powers.
Yuta looks at his finger and remarks, “This is the first time I’ve summoned Rika by my own will.” Gojo responds, “That’s great, you’re making progress!”
Just then, Yuta sees a child being wheeled by on an IV drip, and it reminds him of when he visited Rika at the hospital when they were younger. After spending time together, Yuta and Rika became good friends, often playing together on the playground. Yuta then recalls the moment when Rika accepted his marriage proposal, and this memory changes his perspective. He begins to wonder if, on that day, it wasn’t Rika who cursed him, but rather he who unintentionally cursed Rika because he didn’t want her to ever leave him.
Gojo shares his theory, saying, “There’s no curse more twisted than love,” and Yuta promises Gojo that while he’s at Jujutsu High, he’ll break this curse. Gojo is happy to hear this. The scene shifts back to the elementary school where they had just exorcised the curse, and a man finds Yuta’s student ID, which had fallen to the ground.
Meanwhile, the council scolds Gojo, warning him that Yuta manifested Rika’s curse for 422 seconds, which could have been extremely dangerous. Gojo doesn’t make any excuses and says, “I would’ve risked everything to save those kids, even if things had gone out of control. We still don’t know just how powerful Rika really is. She didn’t come from any jujutsu sorcerer lineage, yet she’s incredibly strong. We can’t understand it or control it, so all we can do is watch.”
The council reminds Gojo that Yuta’s execution has only been suspended, not canceled, and that their decision remains unchanged. Gojo replies, “Fine, but if it comes to that, I’ll be on Yuta’s side.” As Gojo leaves, he critiques the council’s outdated methods, saying they don’t even understand how their own system works.
Yuta Continues His Training
Back at school, Gojo notices Yuta running around with Toge and Maki, but both of them are far faster than Yuta. Gojo then takes Yuta to a training area filled with weapons and tools, explaining that exorcising a powerful curse like Rika requires a lot of effort. He shows Yuta a katana and explains, “You can embed Rika’s cursed energy into this sword, just like you’ve done with the ring. Over time, this will give you control over Rika’s power, and when you master it, both of you will be free. But before you can use the sword, you’ll need to train your body and mind.”
Gojo tells Yuta that his training starts now, and Yuta begins practicing with Maki. Panda and Toge watch as Yuta is stronger, but Maki is extremely fast and flexible. She easily takes Yuta down, and he asks, “Why are you fighting so angrily? Can’t we spar calmly?” Maki responds, “You should always practice as if it’s a real fight. You won’t grow stronger unless you experience pain.” Hearing this, Yuta gets back up and challenges Maki again.
Meanwhile, Panda and Gojo discuss Yuta’s progress over the past three months and how much everything has changed. Toge agrees, pointing out that even Maki’s behavior has changed; she doesn’t usually spar with other weapon users the way she does with Yuta.
At this point, Panda yells at Yuta, teasing him by asking, “Tell me, do you like big breasts or small ones?” Hearing this, Yuta becomes extremely embarrassed, turning red with shame, and shyly replies, “I think…big.” Panda gets excited and says to Maki, “Looks like you two could get along!” This makes Maki furious, and she starts fighting Panda in anger. Yuta, confused, turns to Toge and asks, “What’s going on?” Toge simply responds with one of his rice ball ingredient phrases, and then goes back to observing the situation.
Yuta thinks to himself, “What is going on here? Why doesn’t Toge talk like a normal person?” Just then, Gojo arrives with an assignment specifically for Toge, and Panda explains to Yuta that Toge is the only second-grade sorcerer among the first-years who can go on missions alone. Yuta is impressed, and Maki wonders why Yuta is impressed, considering he’s a special-grade sorcerer—far stronger than all of them.
Gojo leads Yuta into an army where there are lots of weapons . He explains that, to break a curse, one must first understand it. Gojo shows Yuta a katana and says, “You can embed Rika’s cursed energy into this blade, just like you’ve done with the ring. By doing this gradually, you’ll start gaining control over Rika’s curse. With the help of this katana, as you improve and master it, both you and Rika will be able to break free.” Gojo adds that he won’t be accompanying them on this mission and warns Yuta to be careful not to summon Rika. He instructs Yuta to only use the cursed energy he has stored in the katana. “If you summon Rika, both of you will be in serious danger,” Gojo warns.
Yuta’s Mission with Toge
Gojo drops Yuta and Toge off at an abandoned shopping district that is set to be demolished soon to make way for a new mall. Their assignment is to exorcise all the low-grade curses lurking in the area so that construction can begin. As they explore the shopping center, Yuta notices that Toge isn’t around but soon sees him coming out of a nearby store with a throat spray in hand.
Ijichi (assistant director at Tokyo Jujutsu High) explains that they need to exorcise all the curses, or the mall won’t be able to open. He wishes Yuta luck, creates a barrier, and then disappears. Yuta and Toge begin searching for the curses and soon find groups of them, similar to what Yuta had encountered at the school. Yuta remembers Maki’s advice: weak curses always travel in groups and are relatively easy to defeat. Yuta watches as Toge effortlessly uses his cursed speech technique to command the curses, making quick work of them. Yuta is impressed but also notices that Toge’s voice starts to weaken.
Yuta realizes that’s why Toge brought the throat spray. Despite being powerful, Toge’s technique takes a toll on his voice. As the fight progresses, Yuta and Toge grow suspicious that something more dangerous is lurking, and they’re proven right when a strong curse suddenly attacks them from behind. They don’t notice that someone is watching them from a distance—an unknown figure observing their fight.
The curse proves to be much stronger, and Toge struggles. The curse manages to land a hit, and Toge falls. Yuta saves Toge, bringing him back to safety. During the chaos, Toge’s throat spray is left behind, and Yuta realizes that unless they exorcise the curse, the veil will not be lifted. Toge, determined to handle the situation alone, tries to move forward. Yuta is impressed by Toge’s resolve to take responsibility, but says, “We’ll fight together, so there’s no need for you to go alone.”
Yuta’s First Controlled Summon of Rika
Yuta calls upon Rika for a small amount of cursed energy and channels it into his katana. He uses the sword to protect Toge from the curse’s attacks, fully confident in Toge’s strength. Yuta hands Toge the throat spray, allowing him to recover quickly. Toge uses it and yells, “Explode!” using his cursed speech. At that moment, the curse is fully exorcised. They high-five each other, and Yuta says, “Once I break Rika’s curse, I’ll become a normal person again, and I’ll have to let her go.” He’s saddened by this realization, but he knows it’s for the best.
However, their problem isn’t completely solved—the veil still hasn’t come down. The mysterious figure from earlier continues watching them. It’s revealed that this person was also present during the elementary school incident and is a special-grade sorcerer, like Yuta. He’s eager to see what Yuta and Rika are capable of, but he doesn’t witness Rika in action this time.
The mysterious man retrieves Yuta’s ID card, which had fallen earlier, and remarks, “Looks like I’ll have to return this to him.”
I don’t need cursed energy. I’ll prove my worth with my own strength.
