Introduction
In the Jujutsu Kaisen Universe, ranking cursed spirits based on characters makes very little sense because they’ve already been assigned their grades. However, what’s unique here is that each character’s power is vastly different from others, especially when we talk about their cursed techniques.
That’s why in today’s blog, we’re going to thoroughly understand the full powers of some characters that appear in the show. Now, you might wonder why I’m talking about only some characters and not all of them. The reason is that the Jujutsu Kaisen Universe has a lot of characters, and if we include all of them in one blog, it would be 2-3 hours long. So, in today’s blog, we will only discuss the students of the Kyoto school. If the blog receives a good response, we will later cover Tokyo Jujutsu High Students, then we will learn about sorcerers, cursed spirits, and their battles, meaning many blogs will follow, so make sure to give a good response.
Now, let me tell you that in this blog, I’ll be giving you some manga information. So yes, there might be a few spoilers here and there, so be careful. To start off, let me tell you that in the Jujutsu Universe, we are primarily introduced to two schools: the first is Tokyo Jujutsu High and its sister school, Kyoto Jujutsu High. These schools are considered the pillar of the Jujutsu community. If you think these schools have around 1500 students, that’s not the case. Kyoto currently has only seven students, and we will learn about these seven students in this blog.
Arata Nita: The Medic of Kyoto Jujutsu High
The first student is Arata Nita, a first-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High. His cursed technique is not designed for attack or defense but is more of a kind that could be useful for healing. That’s right, Arata can use his painkiller technique to stop someone’s blood loss, and he can even reduce their pain. Basically, it can be said that he can prevent injuries from worsening, although he cannot heal the injuries themselves.
Because Arata isn’t that good in combat, and his technique isn’t very attack or defense-oriented, people consider her the weakest Jujutsu sorcerer. I mean, he hasn’t become a sorcerer yet. He is a student, so let’s consider him a student. However, in my opinion, Arata could be a valuable asset during battles because he’s a medic. If you’ve played PUBG, you know how important it is to have medic, so the role of a medic should never be underestimated.
As a member of the Kamo family and a student of Kyoto Jujutsu High, it’s my duty to uphold our legacy, no matter the cost.

Mai Zenin: The Enigmatic Twin of the Zenin Family
Moving on, the next student is Mai Zenin. As her name suggests, Mai belongs to the Zenin family and is the twin sister of Maki Zenin, whom we have already seen in the anime. You might remember Maki better, but Mai also made an appearance. Mai is a second-year student at Kyoto, and her technique is called Construction. With Construction, Mai can create anything using her cursed energy. However, she can only make small objects due to the high energy consumption, which has been quantified; she can only create one bullet per day.
Now, you might ask why she creates bullets. Well, that’s because her primary weapon is a revolver with six bullets, so people count those six bullets, but she always has a seventh bullet, which she has constructed herself. This technique continuously consumes her cursed energy, making her one of the weaker students in Kyoto. However, there is a deep connection and a secret between Mai and Maki, which is linked to their family’s prominence in the Jujutsu world, being one of the top three families.
And obviously, when such things happen, there are bound to be old-fashioned mentalities and such, which have affected both Mai and Maki. Since both are girls, they aren’t treated well. Additionally, Maki cannot see cursed spirits, which is a significant problem and somewhat of an insult to the Zenin family, whereas Mai can see cursed spirits, but she isn’t physically strong. Again, this is considered shameful for the Zenin family.
Now, because Maki is strong, she mentally pushes herself to become a great sorcerer despite her family’s expectations. As a result of Maki’s rebellious nature, Mai was also pushed by her family to become a sorcerer, though she never wanted to be one. Mai preferred doing household chores and living a normal life, but due to family pressure, she had to become a sorcerer as well. This is the reason why Mai seems to be quite annoyed, especially with Maki.
Now, if you remember what I said, I said that Maki is very strong physically, but she lacks cursed energy. Whereas, Mai has enough cursed energy, but she is not that physically
strong as Maki. And all this is happening because of heavenly restriction. Now, what is Heavenly Restriction? I’ll explain that later in this blog, as it’s a very interesting concept. But before that, I will tell you a little secret here, and that is, because Mai and Maki are twins, they share the cursed energy from the same cursed pool.
Yes, that means, if one of these sisters dies, the other one will have good physical strength, and a big pot of cursed energy. So, you can understand, one will die, and the other will become strong. In fact, one of them died in the manga, and the other one became very strong. Now, I won’t tell you who died, or else it will be a major spoiler. I will tell you in another blog, explaining the plot, what exactly happened. Anyway, let’s move on from the gossip of these two sisters.
Kasumi Miwa: The Sword-Wielding Swordswoman
So, our next student is Kasumi Miwa. Kasumi is also a second year student of Kyoto Jujutsu High, and she doesn’t have any innate technique. But she can see the curses, and she can use her barrier technique, which is Simple Domain.
Now, Kasumi is a very good swordsman, and she has so much control over her cursed energy, that she can block cursed speech to some extent. In fact, she can block a lot. By using her new shadow style, Simple Domain, Kasumi can make a circle of a radius of 2.21 meters around herself. And whoever comes inside that circle, will have to face Kasumi’s sword. She also uses the Battle Sword Drawing technique, which is the fastest technique to draw a sword, Basically, Kasumi combines her cursed energy with her swordsmanship Skill, and combines it to attack or defend.
Now, if we talk about Kasumi’s life, she comes from a very poor family, where she had two younger brothers. Kasumi’s aim is to earn good money in her life, because obviously, she has always seen poverty, and her hair color is a little weird. I think greenish, I’m not very sure. I couldn’t see it properly in the manga. This is why Kasumi’s mother always dyed her hair black, but still, the actual color will come. In her junior high school, Kasumi got a mentor, with whose help she joined Jujutsu, and then, she is a student now, and will become a sorcerer in the future.
Kokichi Muta: The Puppeteer with a Heavenly Restriction
Now, we have only one student left in the second year, in Kyoto Jujutsu High, whose name is Kokichi Muta. Kokichi is also known as Ultimate Megamaru, and this is because, instead of him, he uses a puppet, or we can say a robot, which he is manipulating from a far distance. Actually, Kokichi has a heavenly restriction. I had also mentioned the heavenly restriction in Maki’s case.
So, let me tell you what it actually is. So, heavenly restriction is a kind of binding, which is on the sorcerer, and according to this, it will be that, you will be very good in one thing, but not so good in the other. I mean very weak in other department. Now, this might sound a little confusing, so let me explain it to you with the example of Kokichi. So, Kokichi’s body, his bones, are as weak as a glass. Meaning, it can break like a glass. Also, his skin is as thin as a paper. He doesn’t have a single hand, and he is barely surviving. So, you can see how physically weak he is. But, what did he get in exchange for this? Well, a lot of cursed energy. Yes, a pool, a big pool of cursed energy.
Using his own cursed energy, he controls his robot or puppet, which is called Mechamaru. And Mechamaru attends classes ,participates in goodwill events, and fights, etc. Now, his cursed technique is obviously puppet manipulation, with the help of which he can easily control Mechamaru, who is sitting very far away. Meaning, he kind of represents himself.
Now, I hope you understood heavenly restriction well. You might have also understood why Maki didn’t have a lot of cursed energy, when she was physically very strong. Whereas, in Mai’s case, it was just the opposite. Anyways, here I’ll tell you a little more about Kokichi. So, basically, Kokichi wanted to heal his body in any way, and for this, he joined hands with Mahito. Yes, our villain Mahito. So, basically, Kokichi had a binding vow with Mahito, under which Kokichi would give Mahito some information related to the goodwill event, and in return, Mahito would heal his body. Now, as I told you, Kokichi has a lot of cursed energy, which he has been storing for years. So, his plan was that as soon as he would heal, meaning, his body would be restored, he would use all of his cursed energy at once, and kill Mahito. So, no one would be harmed, and he would get his body back.
Now, Kokichi fulfilled his plan, but the problem here was that he couldn’t kill Mahito. Now, because he couldn’t kill Mahito, and his cursed energy was also used to a great extent, what would happen? Well, he himself was killed. Now, let me clear one thing here, that Kokichi was not a bad person. In fact, he had even put a clause in his binding vow, that no harm would be done to students from Kyoto Jujutsu High. Just that, we can say that Kokichi was very desperate to get his healthy body back. Meaning, he considered his life to be very worthless, because he didn’t have a good body. And in this desperation, he took the wrong step. So, understand, don’t be too desperate for anything. Do your karma, don’t worry about the result.
Aoi Todo: The Brawny Brain with a Boogie Woogie Twist
Anyway, next on our list are the 3rd year students from Kyoto Jujutsu High, and the first one is, and my favorite, Todo. Todo is one of the strongest students from Jujutsu High, and just by looking at his physical build, you can tell that he looks very strong. Todo is a Jujutsu sorcerer from Grade 1, who, even without using his cursed energy, is very strong. So, imagine how OP he would be, if he used his cursed energy. Now, looking at Todo, a general perception might be that he is very strong, but he is also a bit dumb. But let me tell you, that Todo’s intelligence is just as strong as his physique.
During the nightline attack, Todo defeated 5 Grade–1 Curses without using his cursed energy. But to defeat the special grade, he had to use the curse technique. Todo is an expert in hand-to-hand combat. Then he has super speed, super strength. And super intellect. I mean, what else does a person need? He has a lot of cursed energy and he can also use black flash. So black flash is basically a technique in which in just 0.00001 seconds of physical hit. You have to unleash your curse technique or curse energy. And then a blast is created from it, which is very powerful. Its color is black, which looks like a flash. That’s why its name is black flash.
Basically, to sum up, it’s a very powerful attack. And it’s very difficult to do it. But Todo can do it. yuji can do it too. They are both best friends. And Todo’s innate technique is Boogie Woogie. Although I’ll tell you that Todo doesn’t belong to any famous family. So when Todo claps in this technique, after this clap, he can switch himself from anyone who is in his range. The condition here is that the one he switches with should also have cursed energy. We saw Todo using this against special grade Hanami. Where he was switching from yuji. And you must remember the scene in the anime where they both beat Hanami so badly. By clapping.
Now it’s not necessary for Todo to need both his hands to clap. I mean, one can be his hand, the other can be someone else’s hand. Besides this, Todo also has a simple domain. With which he can stop any kind of curse technique in a set area. I mean, he can basically defend himself from it. Now here, Todo also has a binding vow which is revealing one’s hand So basically, what happens in this is that whenever Todo tells someone his curse technique, then after that, his technique will become stronger. And the other person will be more confused that what is going on here. Anyways, all we can say is that Todo is a very powerful character.
Noritoshi Kamo: The Blood Manipulator of the Kamo Clan
So next up in our third year’s list is Noritoshi Kamo. Now as the name suggests, Noritoshi belongs to the Kamo family. Whose innate technique is blood manipulation. That means Noritoshi’s technique will be the same. Now with blood manipulation, Noritoshi can do anything. I mean, sky is the limit. Let me give you an example. Let’s say he uses his blood to put it on an arrow. So he can control that arrow in any way.
I mean, it won’t go straight. It won’t follow the laws of physics. it will turn here and there. So you can see what he can do by using blood. So the possibilities are endless. By the way, 5-6 techniques have been shown in anime which he mostly uses. We won’t go into detail on all of them. But yes, I will tell you one thing. His favourite weapon is bow and arrow. You must have seen it in anime. He uses it a lot. So because of this blood manipulation technique, which is a very powerful technique, we can say that Noritoshi will become a semi-grade 1 sorcerer.
Momo Nishimiya: The Aerial Scout with a Strategic Edge
Now in our list, the last person is Momo Nishimiya. Momo is a little weak compared to Todo and Noritoshi. But her abilities are very helpful for scouting. Momo is a semi-grade 2 sorcerer. And her innate technique is tool manipulation. We can see how Momo manipulates a broom and flies like a witch. And because she is up in the air, that’s why I said her scouting is very good. Because obviously, if you are on high ground in the air, you can see and understand the threats from a distance.
So she gathers information very well. Apart from this, she can also do very powerful attacks with her broom. Especially, her attack is a powerful gust of strong cursed wind energy. We could see Momo using her scouting in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. And obviously, in the anime, the Goodwill event, she was scouting very well. So yeah, her cursed technique is not that powerful, but it is very useful. I mean, if you get information in any fight, then that’s a big deal.
We may be few in number at Kyoto, but every student here carries the weight of their own ambitions and struggles.
